Lowe’s Home Improvement, Ace Metal & Iron, and the City of Columbus are partnering to provide residents of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio with a discounted electric lawn mower in exchange for their gas-powered mower.
Electric mowers reduce air pollution, eliminate accidental oil and gasoline leaks and spills, and allow for a quieter experience.
The Lawnmower Exchange program has taken place each spring, typically in April or May, for several years onsite at Lowe’s at 2345 Silver Drive with support from various environmental and local organizations.
For spring 2026, combined discounts offer a higher subsidy than in previous years. The cost to residents will be $79.00 (retail $349.00) for a Kobalt 40-Volt 21-in Brushless Battery Push Lawn Mower 6 Ah (Battery and Charger Included). Priority will be given to the following ZIP codes due to certain criteria including a lack of air-quality data per the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC):
The event will take place on May 23, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Participants must bring their working or non-working gas-powered mower to exchange at the event for recycling with Ace Iron & Metal. Registration is required and open on a first-come, first-serve basis and restricted to one purchase per household. Addresses are subject to verification. Supplies are limited.
Registration is expected to open approximately one month before the event. Residents who wish to be notified should follow Sustainable Columbus and GreenSpot by signing up for email updates and social media notifications.
