Forensic Services Bureau - Crime Lab

Mission Statement: The mission of the Columbus Police Crime Laboratory is to provide forensic science services to law enforcement agencies in a manner that demonstrates the highest level of quality, impartiality, integrity, and professionalism.

Commitment to Quality: The Columbus Police Crime Laboratory is accredited in the field of forensic testing by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and the FBI Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories.

The Crime Laboratory management and all personnel are committed to:

  • Impartiality of its laboratory activities and shall not allow commercial, financial, or other pressures to compromise impartiality.
  • Good professional practice by adhering to the Division of Police Code of Ethics and the "Guiding Principles of Professional Responsibility for Forensic Service Providers and Personnel."
  • Performing forensic testing activities in its permanent facilities to meet the requirements of the accrediting body, the laboratory's customers, regulatory authorities (e.g., FBI Quality Assurance Standards (QAS) for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories, National DNA Index System Operational Procedures, Minimum Required Operating Standards (MROS) for National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) Sites, State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy), and organizations providing recognition.
  • Continually improving the effectiveness of its management system through the use of this quality policy, objectives, audits, analysis, improvements, corrective actions, and management review.
