Community Crisis Response Advisory Board

Applications for the Community Crisis Response Advisory Board are now closed.

The Community Crisis Response Advisory Board originated with a collaborative City Charter amendment, an effort of Columbus City Council in partnership with the Columbus Safety Collective and the Mayor’s administration, to establish a community crisis response service system for the City. You can learn more about the City’s current approach to alternative crisis response here.

This amendment was passed overwhelmingly by voters in May 2026. The amendment included the creation of an office, division or department that would coordinate and collaborate around the provision of these services, as well as fund community crisis response system operations. The Charter amendment also established an advisory board to oversee and make recommendations in this effort.

In June 2026, Council passed an ordinance to define the membership, organization and duties of this board. This ordinance establishes a 15-member board, intended to represent the diversity of Columbus, as well as representatives from bargaining units and other relevant organizations, and creates a process for residents to apply for and be appointed by the Mayor and City Council.

The deadline to complete the application was Oct. 23, 2026, and applications are now closed. The Mayor and City Council will work collaboratively to make appointments in early November, with the goal of the board holding its first meeting by the end of November 2026.

Potential dates for the board’s first meeting are Nov. 17, Nov. 18 and Nov. 23.
