2026 Training Opportunities

Our primary responsibility is the professional development and education of police personnel, representing the values of professionalism embraced by the City of Columbus and Division of Police.

The below classes unless noted otherwise are open to all certified law enforcement officers who are presently employed by a law enforcement agency. A Columbus Police Officer will confirm your employment prior to your attendance. Registration for these classes will be completed by email only. If you have questions regarding any of these classes please email the Advanced Training Staff. Ambush and Lethal Environment Recognition Training (A.L.E.R.T.) February 17-19, 2026 $475 The instructor has recognized the need to mitigate the growing trend of injuries and deaths related to targeted ambush/surprise encounters against law enforcement personnel and has developed a training program to counter those trends. Criminal Drug Interdiction March 17-20, 2026 $475 Students will learn the incredible advanced concealment places in land vehicles that smugglers and other people involved with drugs hide the drugs, weapons and currency. Register Now
Detecting Deception March 23-25, 2026 $475 Detecting Deception is a course designed to provide insight and training into the only three ways people can be deceptive: writing, body language, and any type of verbal statements. Register Now
Courtroom Testimony: A Cop's Perspective April 6-7, 2026 $375 This course is designed to improve your skills in testimony, increase your awareness of the court system processes, and help you understand your role in describing the elements of the crime to a judge or jury in a reasonable light. Meeting the Challenges of Child Death Investigations May 4-6, 2026 $350 This presentation will focus on individuals who are students of leadership and want to grow as individual leaders addressing their motivation for achieving and maintaining a high level of professionalism and leadership skills utilizing ethical decision-making. Desert Snow June 1-3, 2026 $749 This 3 day course is designed to provide its attendees with all of the skills needed to detect criminal activity during traffic stops and to find illegal contraband concealed within hidden compartments. Register Now
Hostage Negotiations and Crisis Intervention, Phase I and II June 1-5, 2026 $675 This opening block of instruction includes instructor and class self-introductions and an overview of the class curriculum, historical context of negotiations, provided materials and suggested readings. Hostage Negotiations With the Empathy Impaired and Psychopaths July 20-22, 2026 $500 This advanced negotiation class is for police crisis (hostage)negotiators who have already passed a 40-hour basic certification course. Psychological Aspects of Criminal Behavior November 16-18, 2026 $400 This course introduces, identifies, and evaluates the concepts of normal and abnormal behavior leading to dangerousness.  Register Now
Cell Phone Investigations November 17-19, 2026 $350 Cell phones evidence can exist in many places, the records, the device, and even the cloud. And in a best case scenario, we will want to get all of that data and compare it. This course will cover all of those ways, explain how to get the evidence, preserve is, and prepare it for trial.
