Program Announcement:
The Lead Safe Columbus Program is a grant funded program through the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control. The mission of the Lead Safe Columbus Program is to create lead-safe and healthy affordable housing to prevent the lead poisoning of children and adults in Columbus neighborhoods.
- $40,000 per property to address lead- based paint hazards in the home
- $4, 200 per property to address healthy home repairs (if applicable)
- $1,600 per property to address radon testing & mitigation system installation (if applicable)
The Lead Safe Columbus Program is currently accepting applications. To access our Homeowner Services application please click the link below. Program Eligibility & Guidelines
- Properties must be located within the City of Columbus limits and built before 1978
- Can be single or multi-family units
- Owner occupied properties must have a child under the age of 6 living or visiting the property atleast six (6) hours per week
- Occupied units must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI)
- Rental properties can be tenant occupied or vacant
- Pregant women
- All units must pass a Decent, Safe & Sanitary Inspection
- Agree to a 3-year Restrictive Covenant on property
Program Priorities
Priority 1: Owner or tenant occupied units with children who have been found to have levels of lead in their blood that is equal to or greater than 3.5ug/dL and referred by the Columbus Health Department
Priority 2: Units occupied with children under six (6) years of age in which lead hazards are identified
Priority 3: Units in which children under six (6) years of age are spending more than six (6) hours a week in the home in which lead hazards are identified
Priority 4: Vacant single and multi- family rental units in which lead hazards are identified
Priority 5: Tenant-occupied rental units in which there are no children under six (6) years of age living or visiting and in which lead hazards are identified.
Lead Safe Registry Map
The map depicts properties that have passed a lead clearance evaluation in the Lead Safe Columbus Program. The units shown were determined lead-safe based on a lead clearance evaluation in the month shown. “Lead-safe,” means that there were no deteriorated lead-based paint, no lead contaminated dust, and no exposed lead-contaminated soil identified at the time of the lead evaluation.

• We will pay for Lead Training for lead workers and lead supervisors
