Our Mission

The Department of Technology's (DoT) primary mission is to support and partner with public-facing agencies across the City in using technology to serve the residents and businesses of Columbus and Central Ohio. We do this by planning, designing, developing, procuring, and delivering information technology, telecommunications, and media services in partnership with City departments, City Council, boards and commissions, and other government entities.

What We Do

DoT's work spans six core service areas:

  • IT Infrastructure & Operations: Fiber networks, data centers, network connectivity, and support services across all City departments
  • Cybersecurity: Protecting city systems, resident data, and critical digital infrastructure
  • Open Data & GIS: Award-winning geospatial data platform and citywide open data access
  • Digital Equity & Inclusion: Expanding broadband access, digital literacy, and equitable procurement
  • Media Services & Columbus Television (CTV): Government TV broadcasting, video production, and social media services
  • Web & Application Services: Columbus.gov management, enterprise applications, and web governance for city departments

Strategic Priorities

DoT's current work is focused on four strategic priorities:

  • Digital Equity: Ensuring every Columbus resident can access affordable, reliable broadband and the skills to use it
  • Cybersecurity Resilience: Strengthening city defenses and restoring public trust following the 2024 cybersecurity incident
  • Open Government: Expanding open data access and transparency across city services
  • Digital Accessibility: Meeting ADA Title II requirements and making columbus.gov fully accessible to all users
