Illegal Dumping

You may have seen a person in your neighborhood or someone in a truck dumping tires, furniture, or construction material in an alley or on a vacant lot.  It is called illegal dumping and it is a crime.

Illegal dumping has a significant impact on our neighborhoods, quality of life, safety, public health, roads, waterways, wild life and the environment, economy and tourism.

The Division of Refuse Collection has three Solid Waste Inspectors who investigate illegal dumping in the City of Columbus.

Residents can assist our Solid Waste Inspectors by helping to identify and prosecute illegal dumpers by:

  • Providing a license number and description of the vehicle
  • Providing a description of the dumper, including gender, race, age and approximate height and weight
  • Providing a description of what type of material has been dumped
  • Providing the address of where the dumping took place
  • If possible take photos or a video of the dumping while it is occurring.
  • Reporting illegal dumping activity to the 311 Service Center at 614-645-3111.
