President Zach Klein, chair of the Rules and Reference Committee, is conducting
a public hearing to discuss prohibiting the practice of "conversion
therapy" within the City. Members of the LGBTQ community and mental health
professionals will be on hand to present information on the practice.
"This
effort is to protect our children from a bogus and harmful practice that has no
scientific support or evidence of clinical effectiveness," said Klein.
"I am taking a stand with the numerous mental health professional
organizations that condemn 'conversion therapy'."
Public
testimony will be accepted. Anyone wishing to address City Council on this
matter must fill out a speaker slip onsite before 4:30pm on the day of the
hearing. Testimony must be limited in scope to the topic of conversion therapy.
