Council Residential Districting Commission Announces Community Meeting Series

Commission to Inform Community on Process, Take Recommendations, and Encourage Engagement in District-Drawing Process

CRDC Generic Image

[COLUMBUS, OH]  As we embark on the journey to create legislative districts within Columbus, it is important to be intentional about educating residents on the process, as well as soliciting recommendations and feedback from our community.

"This process needs to be as open and transparent as possible," said Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy. "I'm eager to advocate that residents across Columbus participate and engage with this exciting process, as the future of our City Council will be determined through these maps."

Welcome to CRDC Wednesdays! For the next couple of months, each Wednesday evening, the CRDC will host a virtual community meeting to engage residents in this map-drawing process. Join us in this process and be sure to tell a friend!

"As the CRDC moves forward and our team continues to get to know each other, I am very excited to go out into our communities," said CRDC Chair, Malik Moore. "I am looking forward to learning from our guest speakers during our scheduled education meetings and I also look forward to hearing what people in the community are feeling as we travel throughout our neighborhoods."

Residents are encouraged to follow Council's social media channels and further emails for links to these events as they take place. The main places to watch will be on Facebook Live or on the City of Columbus' YouTube channel

The purpose of these first two meetings is to educate the commissioners and residents about topics related to districting which includes the Voting Rights Act, the history of the city, zoning and urban planning, and area commissions and civic associations. They are for presentation but we will be accepting questions in the Facebook and YouTube comments.
