Thank You for Your Blood Donations for Sickle Cell Awareness!

October 5, 2022

{COLUMBUS, OH} -- During Sickle Cell Awareness Month, The City held four separate blood drives to aid  those with Sickle Cell Disease. These individuals may need regular blood transfusions to avoid medical crises. We had a very successful September based on the drives we held, and we are so thankful to all of those who donated!

“Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to be an advocate in the on-going fight with Sickle Cell. Your contribution is the difference between a painful existence and a hopeful life,” says Councilmember Nick Bankston. “When you give your time, you are giving something you cannot attain back. You are a reminder to those who struggle with this disease that they are not alone. Thank you for your contribution, I hope that you will continue to be an advocate in this on-going fight.”

Our overall collection goal was 75 units of blood. Here are how the results panned out:

9/14 – Columbus Public Health, 26 donations collected

9/14 – Columbus Public Utilities, 18 donations collected

9/22 – City of Columbus, 47 donations collected

9/26 – COAAA, 32 donations collected

Goal: 75 units of blood

Total Collected: 123 units of blood

Each unit potentially saves 3 lives, so in our region we saved 369 lives!

Thank you again to all who contributed to the blood drives - your efforts are saving lives.
