City Council Considers Public Service Code Updates

WHAT:
Columbus City Councilmember Eileen Y. Paley, chair of the Public Service and Transportation Committee, will hold a public hearing to discuss two code updates being proposed by the Public Service Department. The first will prohibit the parking of vehicles over a curb in the public right of way. Many residents, specifically in the Hilltop area, have complained about ruts between the roadway and sidewalk that have been created by wheels; leading to water, trash and other debris being collected in the rut. A presentation will highlight an educational campaign in neighborhoods and detail fines for car owners who park cars in the right of way. A second piece of legislation to be discussed will address obtaining a permit to use public sidewalks and right of ways for a non-commercial use. The code change will mirror the use of City Hall property. The meeting will be broadcast live on CTV, Columbus’ government television channel on local cable systems.
