Columbia Gas Advises Columbus-area Customers on Gas Odors
Non-hazardous condition related to pipeline replacement work
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbia Gas of Ohio advised today that some Columbus area customers may notice gas odor in the area in the coming days as it wraps up work on a major pipeline replacement project.
The odor could be noticeable in the Clintonville and Ohio State University areas of Columbus, as well as in Grandview Heights, Upper Arlington and Worthington.
During this time, natural gas will be removed from a pipeline that is being taken out of service and the gas either burned or vented into the air. This is a controlled, safe process and not a hazardous leak, but it could produce an odor.
However, Columbia Gas reminds customers that if they have concerns about a possible gas leak in or near their home, they should report it to Columbia Gas, which will dispatch a technician to come out and perform a safety inspection.

Columbia is nearing completion of its Ackerman Pipeline Improvement Project in the Clintonville and OSU areas. The company is investing more than $14 million in a new 1.5-mile natural gas pipeline, which is a critical part of the company’s long-term plan for maintaining safe, reliable natural gas service to Columbia’s customers throughout Franklin County.
The construction work which could create the odor issues is expected to begin September 20 and be completed by September 28.
