Councilmember Mills to Hold Hearing on New Transportation
Services
WHO:
Councilmember Michelle M. Mills
WHEN:
Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 5 p.m.
WHERE:
City Council Chambers
Columbus City Hall90 West Broad Street
WHAT:
Councilmember Michelle Mills, chair of the Public Safety and
Judiciary Committee, will hold a public hearing to discuss proposed changes to
the city's vehicle for hire code specifically relating to livery vehicles.
Earlier this year, the state legislature changed state law so that livery
services were no longer required to charge an hourly rate. This change opened
the door for a new transportation model to enter the Ohio market: mobile
application-based transportation services. This fall, companies providing these
services expressed interest in working with the city to become part of
Columbus’ vehicle for hire industry. The proposed changes will specifically
address mobile application-based transportation companies that provide livery
services.
Public testimony will be accepted. General rules of speaking
before Council apply. Anyone wishing to address City Council on this matter
must fill out a speaker slip on the day of the hearing. The meeting will be
broadcast live on CTV, Columbus' cable access channel 3.
