Council Announces Process, Timeline to Fill Vacancy
Columbus City Council President
Andrew J. Ginther today announced the process to fill the council seat vacated
by President Pro Tem Michelle M. Mills whose resignation is effective Friday,
Sept. 4.
The Charter of the City of
Columbus requires a successor to be appointed by council to serve until the
first day of January following the next regular municipal election, in this
case, Jan. 1, 2016.
In a memo to city councilmembers, President Ginther outlined the
appointment process and announced applications for the seat will be accepted
beginning today. Applicants must submit eight copies of a resume and cover
letter outlining their qualifications to serve the unexpired term.
Application materials must be
accepted and time-stamped by the office of the Columbus City Clerk in City
Hall, 90 West Broad Street, Room 231, Columbus, OH 43215 by Friday, Sept. 11, 12:00 noon.
A Council vote on the appointment
is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21. The first meeting for the new
member of Council would be Monday, Sept. 28.
