Mayor-elect Ginther Announces First Steps in Mayoral Transition
Columbus City Council President
and Mayor-elect Andrew J. Ginther today announced initial steps to ensure a
seamless transition in leadership when he assumes office January 1. The
Mayor-elect named a transition liaison, is establishing a transition advisory
council and announced new resources for those seeking employment with the
City.
“We are taking the first steps
to ensure Columbus is well-positioned to carry forward the momentum and build
upon the solid foundation laid by Mayor Coleman,” said Mayor-elect Ginther. “I
look forward to working with Mayor Coleman and his team to provide for a smooth
transition.”
Transition planning will be
coordinated by Ken Paul who has served as the mayor-elect’s chief of staff and
senior aide on City Council. Paul will serve as a central point of contact for
the transition and will help facilitate the selection of a transition advisory
council who will help advise the new administration.
The Mayoral Transition Advisory
Council will advise the new administration on potential organizational changes;
assist in the recruitment and retention of highly-qualified employees; help
inform and prioritize key policy decisions; and recommend a means to gain
public input on the mayor’s policy agenda. The mayor-elect expects to name
members of the advisory council the first week of December.
“I look forward to working
with a diverse group of neighborhood, faith-based, labor, civic, public and
private sector leaders who will help guide the transition and my first days in
office,” said Ginther.
Separately, Mayor-elect Ginther
directed those interested in employment with the City to the Columbus Civil Service Commission website.
