Laurel Lea Schaefer, Miss America of 1972, has brought honor to herself and to her community through exemplary conduct and high regard for mankind.

The Bexley High School and Ohio University graduate is also a former Miss Central Ohio and Miss Ohio. She has received many honors, including the Tom Dooley Citizenship Award and the American Academy of Achievement’s Gold Plate Award for Outstanding Merit.

Yet the many awards and national recognition Miss Schafer has received has not changed her gracious style and optimistic outlook.

She is as friendly and natural with renowned figures as she is with neighbors and friends in her native city, Columbus.
