ColumbusPublic Health Farmers Market to Offer Fresh, Local Foods
WICParticipants and Residents can get Healthy Foods Right in their Neighborhood
WHAT: Columbus Public Health is hosting its second farmers market of the season to bring fresh fruits and vegetables directly to residents of the Near East side.
WHO: Columbus Public Health
WHEN: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Aug. 3
WHERE: Columbus Public Health, 240 Parsons Ave.
DETAILS: Local farmers will offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhood residents and participants of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program and the Ohio Direction Card at the Columbus Public Health Farmers Market.
Women and children participating in the WIC Program can get coupons for free fresh fruits and vegetables worth $20. The Ohio Direction Card (EBT card) will also be accepted. SNAP dollars on the EBT card will be matched $1 for $1 up to $10.
This market is the second of three signature markets this summer that will be held at Columbus Public Health to serve residents of the Near East side.
The market supports Columbus Public Health’s mission because many chronic health conditions -- including diabetes, overweight and obesity – are related to poor nutrition. The market also helps remove some of the barriers to nutritious food by bringing fresh fruits and vegetables directly to women, children and neighborhood residents.
The last Columbus Public Health Farmers Market of the season will be held on Aug. 10.
