Vacant Lot Repurposing
Blueprint Columbus is transforming vacant lots into sites that treat stormwater.
The South Side Settlement Heritage Park sits on a one acre site that was once vacant land. It includes features typically found in a park such as a walking path, benches, a play area and a shaded picnic area. It also features a porous pavement basketball court and bioswales to treat stormwater from the surrounding area and slowly release it into storm drains. Trees have been planted and as they mature, they will bring shade and beauty to the neighborhood while also helping to absorb and clean stormwater.
The photos below highlight the bioswales built and ready for plants.

This photo shows an area on Parsons Avenue where three vacant lots were transformed into a site that treats stormwater. This site features trees, bioswales and a walking path.
