Outside Agency Recruit Training Law Enforcement Officers are in high demand and quality training is paramount to success in the job. The Columbus Division of Police is proud to open our basic academy to outside agency recruits. Our recruits receive over 1,200 hours of training including 40 hours of scenario based training. Our 31 week program will equip your recruits with the tools needed to become exceptional law enforcement officers; including but not limited to: defensive tactics, physical training, patrol operations, law and legal procedures, human relations, applied behavioral science, criminal investigation and firearms. Recruits graduate with not only the ability to be the best officer they can be but a family and community they can count on for the rest of their lives. Many agencies, such as Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, and Newark have sent their recruits through the Columbus Academy with great results.

The Columbus Police Academy’s outstanding recruit training does an exceptional job of preparing our recruits for the stresses of police work. The recruit staff's direct and honest feedback helps to build them up and to shape them into quality public servants, a perfect fit for our agency. The return on investment far outweighs the cost.”
- Joe Morbitzer, [Former] Westerville Ohio Police Chief
