Franklin County Safe Communities and Partners Host
Community “Click It or Ticket” Kickoff Event

What:  You’re invited to the Black Belt Buckle Up Block Party media event and community celebration. What to expect? Lots of fun and lots of safety! Franklin County Safe Communities and partners will the event to provide a safe, family friendly event as a way to give back to the community and promote the importance of buckling up. The block party will feature games, prizes, live music, a karate expo, food, a seat belt check and fun for the whole family.

Who:  Columbus Public Health’s Franklin County Safe Communities program (Life-saving importance of safety belt use)
Representatives from Columbus Police (Safety Belt Enforcement)
Representatives from the Covenant Church (importance of buckling up in the community)
Representatives from Dairy Queen (to discuss their commitment to safety)
Representative from the Ohio Hispanic Coalition (to discuss safety belt efforts in the Spanish speaking community)

Why: According to NHTSA, regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.  Seat belts, when used, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passen29.2010ger car occupants by 45 percent, and by 60 percent in pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans crash statistics.  Yet 1 in 5 people in Franklin County do not regularly buckle up. Franklin County Safe Communities and event partners are working to raise awareness of the life-saving importance of buckling up and increase safety belt use in Franklin County.
