WALK TO SCHOOL DAY HIGHLIGHTS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Health Commissioner and Community Leaders join Students as they walk to School

WHAT: 14th Annual Walk to School Day to emphasize physical activity and pedestrian safety.

WHO:  Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman; Council Member Michelle Mills; Columbus Public Health Commissioner Dr. Teresa Long; FedEx Regional Manager Terry Smith; Columbus Police Representative name; Avondale Elementary School Principal April Knight; Safe Kids Central Ohio Coordinator Linda Tvorik; and, Avondale Elementary School students and parents.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 5, 2011
  8-8:15 – Walk to School
  9:15-9:30 – Media Event and Brief Comments

WHERE: Avondale Elementary School, 141 Hawkes Ave., Columbus, 43222
  (MEDIA PLEASE MEET AT AVONDALE AT 8 am)
 
DETAILS: Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman, Council Member Michelle Mills, and Health Commissioner Dr. Teresa Long will join other community leaders and safety service professionals to walk students to Avondale Elementary School as part of the 14th Annual Walk to School Day.  They will walk with more than 200 Avondale students to highlight the importance of physical activity and pedestrian safety.

International Walk to School Day is coordinated locally by Columbus Public Health. Participating organizations in 2011 include:  the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office; the Minerva Park Police Department; Mt. Carmel Hospital; FedEx; Columbus Public Health; Safe Kids Central Ohio Coalition; Columbus Division of Fire; and, the City of Columbus.
