KICKBUTTCOLUMBUS! VOLUNTEERS CLEANUP 11 TONS OF LITTER AND 284,315 CIGARETTE BUTTS
A total of 432 volunteers cleaned 11 tons of litter and
284,315 cigarette butts from Columbus freeway exit and entrance ramps during
the 8th annual KickButtColumbus! cleanup on Saturday, March 19,
2016. The litter and cigarette butts were cleaned from 148 freeway ramps
at 39 different locations.
The KickButtColumbus! volunteers
also collected 4.5 tons of recyclables that will go from being strewn on the
ground as trash to being reused in recycled products in the future.
Event volunteers were broken into teams from businesses and
community organizations they work for or represent. Team 21, which
included representatives from Environmental Management Inc. earned the
event’s Golden Ashtray Award, presented each year to the team that collects the
most litter in all categories. Team 21 cleaned 75 bags of litter
from their assigned area.
In the number of cigarette butts collected, Team 27 NAI Ohio
Equities collected 124,289 cigarette butts from the area near Lennox shopping
center.
Volunteers who want to see how much cigarette butts, general litter and
