Mayor Andrew J. Ginther Unveils Hague Avenue Improvements; Part of Capital Improvements Budget
Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther
marked the beginning of the $3.2 million Hague Avenue Improvements Project on
Thursday, a project that is part of the nearly $1 billion Capital Improvements
Budget that City Council adopted earlier this week.
“This project, which is funded in the 2016 Capital
Improvements Budget that I worked with the Columbus City Council to pass
earlier this week, is just among those in the budget that will help
neighborhoods like the Hilltop and the Linden neighborhood,” Mayor Ginther told
a news conference in the Hilltop neighborhood. “It is part of my
administration’s unwavering commitment to our neighborhoods, the lifeblood of
our great city.”
The Mayor was joined at the event by City Councilmembers
Shannon G. Hardin, the chair of council’s Public Service & Transportation
Committee, and Michael Stinziano and neighborhood leaders.
This project on Hague Avenue between W. Broad Street and
Sullivant Avenue will remake the streetscape and increase safety for motorists,
pedestrians and bicyclists as well as help protect parked cars and upgrade water
and storm sewer lines.
In the coming weeks, workers will reconstruct the roadway
down to its base and install new full curbs to improve drainage, build new
sidewalks, Americans with Disability Act Compliant curb ramps and driveway
aprons and will plant trees.
Workers will also build bump-out curb at several nearby
intersections that will help protect parked vehicles, reduce cross walk lengths
and help slow traffic down.
Pavement markings and bicycle sharrows will be installed all
along Hague as will school-zone markings for West Broad Street Elementary
School.
