Columbus Recreation and Parks Department’s programs and facilities serve a vital role in our community. The decision to close facilities and postpone or cancel programs during the public health emergency was necessary to ensure public health and safety. Over the past several weeks, we have consulted with Columbus Public Health regarding methods for safely reopening programs and facilities, especially those services that are a lifeline for residents.
Our goal is to offer quality programming, safely. We have looked at every program and facility to see how we can safely make it available. Below is some information about what will be opening up for our summer restart 2020. We will be practicing social distancing at our summer camps, as well as modifying the group size, location or activity to allow us to serve residents safely.
SUMMER PROGRAMMING GRANTS
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is seeking applications for up to $2 million in grants to assist qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in providing summer programming for youth. The grants will help to ease the challenges families currently face due to the public health emergency and address gaps in programming to ensure youth are supported during this challenging time. The ability to administer funds to like-minded organizations provides the department with a broader reach, and the opportunity to connect more families to vital recreational services.
Grant funding applications will be accepted beginning June 16, 2020. Proposals are due by noon on June 26, 2020.
The grants are supported by Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds. The CARES Act provides economic assistance to help families, workers and businesses protect Americans from the public health and economic impacts of the coronavirus.
