Forensic Scientist I

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing entry level professional scientific analyses to examine, identify, and evaluate physical evidence; performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor's degree with significant coursework (21 semester or 32 quarter hours) in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or closely related physical or natural science.
 
Specific knowledge, skills, or abilities related to the discipline for which appointment is being made may be required for some positions and will be incorporated in the job postings and/or examination announcements, as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of chemistry; general knowledge of biology; general knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and procedures; general knowledge of laboratory safety; some knowledge of the assigned forensic discipline(s); ability to write clear concise reports and maintain accurate records; ability to compare numbers, objects, pictures, or patterns accurately; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform assigned tasks according to prescribed procedure and in timely manner; ability to identify and utilize personal protective equipment; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to maintain confidentiality.
