City of Columbus Celebrates Environmental Successes of GreenSpot Business Winners

The 2022 City of Columbus’ GreenSpotLight awards celebration recognized three businesses for their outstanding sustainability practices. The large-, medium-, and small-organization awards went to Hikma Pharmaceuticals, King Business Interiors and MAD Scientist Associates, respectively. Members of the GreenSpot Advisory Board selected the three awardees using information provided in the businesses’ GreenSpot annual reports.

“I applaud these award winners and other businesses for embracing sustainability in their practices,” said Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “Our community thrives when sustainability is a core value, and we cannot achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 without them.”

These organizations use the MyGreenSpot online tool to adopt and track their sustainability successes in water and energy conservation, waste reduction, green transportation and educational outreach.

Columbus City Councilmember Emmanuel V. Remy, chair of the Council Environment Committee, also recognized the award recipients. “Sustainability efforts must come from every industry, businesses of all sizes and communities throughout the central Ohio region. I join Mayor Ginther in applauding these forward-thinking businesses for dedicating time and effort to becoming sustainable and energy efficient through GreenSpot.”

Additionally, three organizations were recognized for completing GreenSpot’s Sustainable Business Course. This program provides mentoring and networking opportunities as the businesses go through the GreenSpot application process. The organizations that received special recognition include:

  • King Business Interiors
  • Sage Sustainable Electronics
  • Resource International

The awards were presented virtually and pre-recorded with a live component. The celebration can be found on the Columbus GreenSpot Facebook page.

The GreenSpot Program began in 2008 to inspire, educate and recognize those in the community who are taking steps to protect the environment. More than 23,000 households, community groups and businesses are currently members. Membership forms are available for download at www.ColumbusGreenSpot.org.
